THE SOUNDTRACK OF MY YOUTH

THIS BLOG IS OPTIMISED FOR DESKTOPS, LAPTOPS, AND TABLETS. OLD SCHOOL.

I grew up in the 1970s and early 1980s in a small town in England. I had a rather unique childhood, in that my dad was American and my mum is English. This blog is for Americans to learn what was going on “across the pond” at that time and for British visitors to take a trip down memory lane. As the blog name suggests, the main focus is on music.

Not all of the songs that appear here are good. They just happen to be the songs that were present as I grew up.

Some of them are shit. Some of them I pretended not  to like around some of my friends, only to hide the 45s in the box under my bed with my nude Romanian stamp collection and the pack of naked-lady playing cards I bought during a school exchange to France.

But many taught me the meaning of the sublime…

And I will also be including posts about TV, films, ads, fashion, and food from the period of 1970 -1983. They were part of the “soundtrack”, too.

This blog isn’t politically correct. It uses the language we were using at the time. And there is more than a fair share of focus on girls and sex (granted, mostly in the hypothetical). But such is the inner life of teenage boys. If that offends you, go clutch your pearls elsewhere.
