The Main Characters

Because this blog is non-linear, and because someone (maybe you) can start reading at any time, I’m providing a cast list. Whenever I introduce a new character, I’ll leave a profile here. This will make the reading experience that much better.

 

I don’t want it to be like reading Dostoevski, where reading the text is secondary to flipping back and forth, trying to figure out which Vanya the author’s talking about.

 

So here are the main characters. And you can find the supporting characters here. Not their actual photos, of course. But very close:

THE MAIN CHARACTERS

SINGHY

Paul Singh. My best friend from about 14. He was a Teddy Boy when I met him, but evolved (almost) into Mick Karn

KATE

My first actual girlfriend. We had an on again/off again relationship. White dad, black mum. So the family had to out of South Africa. Sharpish…1*2*

RED HELEN My second real girlfriend. Named this by my mum because of Helen’s political views. 1*2*

SMELL

Paul Selwood. He probably would have been my best friend, but he lived a 30-minute bus ride away. 1*2*

JILL

The real spelling is Gill, but that seems to Americans as a boy’s name. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. My first love.

TINKHAM

He was my best friend from about age 10-14. My parents and his were also best of friends. At 14, both families moved, and we drifted apart.
